EDWARDS RECENTLY CALLED UPON BY BBC TELEVISION (15/07/2006)

We were recently called upon by BBC Television Centre to supply and assemble a 16’ x 6’ soccer goal for the recording of ‘Sports Relief’, to be televised on 15 July 2006 in ‘A Question of Sport’. Barry Gall and David Laurence carried out the work and then dismantled and brought the goal back that same evening after filming was over. Can’t give too much away just now, but make sure you don’t miss it.

EDWARDS TENNIS SEASON (01/06/2006)

Naturally the tennis tournaments have been among the major sporting events for the last six weeks. Both nail-biting and awesome.
This year the installation of canvases and equipment at Wimbledon went extremely smoothly and everyone was delighted Edwards’ efforts.
Wimbledon saw Edwards also this year, for the first time, refurbish the scoreboards provided to the AELTC by Slazenger, again a great effort by all concerned.
Latest tournaments and locations include:
Davis Cup, Roehampton, Queens, Nottingham, Wimbledon and Eastbourne.

VALUED MEMBER OF STAFF RETIRES (01/06/2006)

One of our longest serving members of staff Derick Harp celebrated a 50-year association with Edwards Sports when he reached the age of 65 last week. After leaving school at the age of 15 Derick took up employment with Edwards in 1956 and has remained a loyal employee ever since.

When Derick joined Edwards the firm was part of Bridport Industries. He worked through the Bridport Gundry plc amalgamation period of the 1960’s and stayed with Edwards when the firm again went private in 1997.

Derick was first employed as a trainee carpenter going on to manufacture the iconic wooden posts that Edwards supplies to Wimbledon. He has also been involved with indoor sports installations - including David Lloyd tennis centres and Lords Indoor Cricket School. For the last few years Derick has been providing a quality finish to all of the firm’s metal product by operating the powdercoating spray plant.

It should be noted that in his fifty-year period of employment Derick has had only five days absence.

Our Managing Director Archie Barclay said: \"What Derick has achieved with Edwards is phenomenal. He has made an unbeatable contribution to Edwards Sports.\"

Barry Gall our Technical Director presented Derick with a gold watch to mark the occasion and a bouquet of flowers to his wife Carol. Derek was also presented with gifts from his colleagues. We all wish Derek a happy and well earned retirement.
