Edwards Features On The One Show

It was a prime time national TV exposure for Edwards Sports Products last Friday when popular BBC programme “The One Show” ran a feature on Bridport the home of net and rope making in the UK.

The programme went out after the men’s singles semi-finals and featured an interview with Edwards’s MD Archie Barclay as well as shots of Edwards’s employees at work in the firm’s Bridport factory: “The researchers were fascinated by the history of the company. For example there is a pedigree here that stretches from Edwards being the very first manufacturer of the football net to the present day where our products are in demand worldwide. As mentioned on the show, Edwards’s nets were in place in the 1966 World Cup Final. Other significant milestones in the firm’s 125 year history include several Olympic Games and tennis Grand Slam events.

It was a privilege to be involved in such a high-profile programme. Because of the town’s link to its rope and net heritage the television focus was mainly on the net. Yet there is so much more that this company supplies to the Wimbledon tournament- not just nets but posts, umpires chairs, backstop netting, windbreaks and canvas surround screens for all of the courts. I was absolutely delighted that the guys who do the hard work in the factory in manufacturing these products had the cameras here and were recognised for the excellence of their work.”
